A “classy look to a modern palace of commercialism,” is how E. W. Grove, architect of the Grove Arcade (and Grove Park Inn) wanted the building to be described. This impressive downtown Asheville landmark was built between 1926–1929 in Tudor Revival and Late Gothic Revival styles. It was listed on The National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and now features an impressive number of restaurants and businesses. We’ve recently seen a revival in the building and some are locally referring to it as “Restaurant Row.”
Some familiar favorites of the building include The Battery Park Book Exchange and Champagne Bar, Carmel’s Kitchen & Bar, Wake Foot Sanctuary, Burgerworx, Modesto, and Baba Nahm. Brand new to the scene include a local coffee favorite, Summit Coffee; Bebettes New Orleans Coffee House, formally on Tunnel Road; Asheville Proper, a local steak house; and Nani’s Rotisserie Chicken, from the Chai Pani food group.
You could eat only in the Grove Arcade all weekend, and still not make it through all these incredible vendors. We challenge you to try though! Cheers.
